Progress on the Magnolia Project’s Augusta Zadow Award

This year, the Magnolia Project has been working on a project to support the recruitment and retention of women in the criminal justice system. We have developed two written resources, which we will publish on our website in the spring. These support new professionals as they embark on a career in the criminal justice sector. We want to thank all those who participated in this project, both early-career and experienced professionals.

We will be uploading some videos of what they had to say on our website, so please have a look!

Katherine and Andrew were also fortunate to be invited to present this work at the Stockholm Criminology Symposium in June 2024. We presented in a session with researchers from the UK and Norway. This Symposium allowed us to share Magnolia’s work with an international audience. We made some valuable connections with key researchers in the field.

We will launch these Augusta Zadow Award resources at a dinner event on or about Augusta Zadow’s birthday (27 August). The plan is to then distribute copies to key people in criminal justice agencies and university academics in law, psychology, criminology, etc. We hope they will share these resources with graduating students. By doing this, future early-career workers can consider criminal justice work from a trauma-informed perspective.

In addition to our presentation in Stockholm, Andy also met with colleagues at the National Research Centre for the Working Environment in Copenhagen, who provided useful insights into our project.
